Ahh remember those times where mama-shops still existed, where we still ate at the tuckshop, where snacks were more commonly called titbits? I found some pics of stuff we used to eat when we were younger, wanted to find more but I don't think many people take pics of such mundane snacks, so I couldn't find them on Google. But actually my childhood is also pretty deprived.. Like ching, my mom forbid me to eat all kinds of snacks.. oh yeah and she also wouldnt let me go to the school bookshop to buy pretty stationery.. =p
SBC and TCS
of course i watched all the chinese shows last time! there was only channel 5 and 8. lol. i remember the very old show with huang wenyong and xiang yun. it was about pple from china coming to singapore to work as labourer. what is that called..is it lu4 suo3 nan2 yang2?? then, not forgetting the damn popular shuang1 tian1 zhi4 zun1! haha i type hanyu pinyin coz lazy to change to chinese. i remember the theme song for the first shuang1 tian1 zhi4 zun1. it was by zhao4 chuan2. chen2 mo4 de4 gao1 yang2. coz my father always sing that when it's played on the radio. haha. last time we listened to 93.3. always tuned in to every sunday's long2 hu2 bang3. zao3 an1 lao3 shi1 is chen liping and her aiyoyo right. then the zoe tay's san1 mian4 xia4 wa1, i think. she had very very short hair and her name was bobo. haha. and back in those days, tv shows were always dubbed. nowadays, u can hear the actor's real voice which is so much better. don't really know why they dub last time, maybe coz the chinese not accurate? then clash with speak mandarin campaign?
and on the topic of childhood memories, do u all remember the sweets at the mama shop? the figure of 8? i always wanted to buy but my mother don't let me eat. haha. and the thing that u can blow the sticky bubble. i kinda have a deprived childhood so it was only until recently that i learnt how to play that. oh oh! and all the card games like SNAP! and playing catching, hopscotch, hide-and-seek, 2.4.6.8., zero point. i think our childhood is very different from kids these days. they have more gadgets to play with, but given a choice, i would still choose to be born in the 80s (omg so old right.haha). because life was so carefree back then. and we didnt grow up so fast.
what other childhood memories do u all have?
Childhood Memories
hey! Cheryl sent me the song 真爱宣言 which made me really miss the old TCS shows, such as the one above! It's called 再见萤光兰, if any of you remember? You can actually find it on youtube omg.. makes me wanna re-watch these shows.. I already forgot most of the stories, but I remember loving all these shows, such as 七月悄佳人, 解连环, 早安老师... Such fond memories! Did you watch these shows when you were younger too? I know Cheryl n Wen most prob do lah, what about Shan.. and Ching?

u know this sem i'm really super slack, because I don't have many papers and I still have enough S/Us to cover my ass..
and I was even trying so hard to justify my slacking behaviour. I was thinking about it juz now, and I realised that I'm in an "A- or S/U" position in order to preserve my CAP, and I'm really not that keen in fighting for an A- anymore. Really just seem to lose the motivation to study hard, or even study at all.
but character development, hmm, that's something new..
and i think it sounds so logical. whatever that hwachong trc said (i dun remember any trc called Lily but my memory is bad, so maybe can ask the rest of jiemei). I think sometimes we get so lost by our goals that we forget that we shouldn't be doing everything just to attain certain goals.
i hope i can fight my lazy bug. boo, just when I thought I found enough justification (against my conscience) to slack! but i guess there is almost never enough justification for stuff that's against one's conscience..
ok this post is not about polls
or housekeeping or work.
hahahs.
i know all of you'll are having exams
and i am the only one not
~~~~lalalalalala~~~~
hahahs.
but of course
i'm not gonna just heck care
but instead,
would like to give your some encouragements!
today i attended this student division meeting
and there was this HCJC teacher (who was the mother of a member)
who came to give some study tips to the students
i don't know if you know her
she teach econs
called lily or sth.
i think she is from hwa chong.
but anyway she said some things
that i really think is not bad to share with you all.
she was sharing with the students
that studying is a way of character development.
why so.
she said that youths nowadays
have two biggest problem.
(1) Escapism
(2) Procrastination
Escapism being the mentality to escape
from your responsibilities or escaping
from what is difficult and doing what seems much easier.
she said that it's so easy to escape
but it's so much harder to stay
and commit to what a student should do.
Procrastination
(don't need me to explain le hor)
i guess it's a really serious 'illness'
where all of us, whether working or studying
will still bear this.
it's giving yourself excuses to push away something impt
or telling urself that you have alot of time etc.
therefore
she shared
that being able to conquer these two
is a way of character development
and i guess uni studies is not just about scoring
as many As as possible..
yup.. it's also about developing a better character!
so jiayou people!
it's your last semester!
last chance to really be a student
and last chance to develop your character
as a 'student'!
don't slack hor!
=)
glad to see so many discussions going on
and i was reading through everything
when i realised something!!!
i am doing up chinatown's dumpling festival now
and am inviting international chefs over to do cooking demos
but at the same time, i want to be in contact with local SEA restaurants
(SEA - South East Asian)
and and and!
i just realised you girls just conveniently listed
SO many vietnam restaurants for me!
hahahahs!
good good!
would love your help
paiseh ah
i know this is a jiemei blog
i was still headach-ing over where to find good viet restaurants!
and you guys just gave me so many inspirations!
anyway..
i am going to put up a poll thingy on the sidebar
let us all vote where to go and what to do
on the 8th May!
shape run
so anyway, living up to my profile description, i thought of sharing this website with u guys. it's actually the online website of the magazine "SHAPE". got health and fitness tips so we can all be healthier young ladies! health is quite important to me. anyway, check out the website below. i just visited it because i wanted to sign up for the SHAPE run that's happening on sunday, 20th july. there's a 5km and a 10km one. i signed up for 10km.
website: http://www.shape.com.sg/ and click on shape run. anyone interested to join me? since it's the same price whether u join 5 or 10, might as well take the longer one right.
and i'll also share some interesting tips with u all. here's one now:
salad myth: green is always better.
truth: powerful antioxidants in purplish vegetables like eggplants help reduce risk of heart disease and improve brain function, while cancer-fighting indoles feature strongly in vegetables like radishes and red tomatoes.
so if u dun like ur greens, try other colours. they're just as good! and if u think salads are very bland, u can add cut fruits, or sliced hard-boiled eggs, or slices of cheese and ham! :)
After Chinatown Eventions event at Maxwell
Steamboat session !
anyway Vietnamese food sounds good! Fine with any cafe as well, doesnt mean we need to go watch the movie. it was just a suggestion. But I think if we go to Minds Cafe, we will just keep playing and not talk much. so will prefer a normal cafe.
there's a Vietnamese food place at Suntec, but its kinda small. and according to marcus, when we tried, its not really authentic either, other than the drip coffee. so can try the places huiching recommended. (i dont like drip coffee by the way). haha.
i will zao before dinner on the 8th. so prob leave around 5? hmm purvis st not that near. the st that is near purvis st is seah st. haha. liangseah is opposite bugis junction. oh! i just suddenly remembered! there's a viet restaurant at holland v! it's btw sushi tei and thai express. i ate there before (on 1st day of chinese new year. hahaha.). it's not bad. then we can go to settlers? or there are also plenty of cafes to chill out at holland v. heh.
yes! mambo on the 7th! are we asking the guys also? shanshan! really hope ur leg will stop swelling. haha we still have salsa lessons when i come back. eat more chicken feet. lol. wenhui u must come also ok?? really. i promise it's going to be fun fun fun!
i was looking around my folders for nice jiemei photos. and then i realised that after we stopped doing pru events, we have very few photos where all of us are present. it's always someone missing. let's take more photos on the 8th so we can blog and there'll be enough photos until we come back. heh. to our dearest shanshan, dun miss us too much! we shall have another gathering when we're back! i'll get something for u from each of my trips. =)
Post-exam-and-injured-ankle Jiemei Outing
anw I was thinking maybe we can try out the Vietnamese food at Liang Seah St and then go to the Mind cafe at Purvis St.. quite near right? and the Mind cafe has Happy Hour 2-6pm $5 per pax freeflow drinks n boardgaming..
huiching how long can you stay until on the 8th? i was thinking if you can't stay out till too late, I rather go Mind cafe coz at least can chitchat.. watching movies is like minimal interaction activity, I'm not that keen if we've limited time!
and don't forget Mambo night on 7th! plz confirm attendance and don't pang seh! and shanshan pls pls pls do recover before that, I really hope you can make it to Zouk too.. but u're back in crutches poor thing! Hope u recover VERY soon! u got ard 2 wks left!
wenhui, i have tried a few viet restaurants in sg before but none blew my mind away though. there's one at kiliney road called orange lantern but im not sure if it's still there. that one is not bad. then liang seah st also has one called miss saigon. there's also this place called pho24 at millenia walk and upp thomson. i tried the one at upp thomson but not very nice. but we can try the one at millenia walk. or go liang seah st.
i like the blog profiles! although it's time to change cheryl's no booze policy. she also drinks now lor. thanks to marcus. haha.
brunch is a weekend thing. a few places have brunch menus such as brewerkz, paulaners, and hotels. they start from 11am to 4pm. haha i dunno how that's brunch coz it seems more like lunch and tea to me. that said, i havent actually gone for any brunch before. and i really highly recommend everyone to watch how i met your mother. it's damn funny! and xintian! have u watched the latest ep??
ok if everyone's up for some viet food, we can have that for lunch. then followed by the movie. and then after that i think i have to go home already. haha.
today i was studying alone in sch! but managed to get alot of things done though. but don't think i'll be going back to sch to study anymore. dad's flying off tomorrow and first paper's on tues so stay at home on monday.
FOOD~
Blog Housekeeping.
on a side note,
this is what i plan to do onto the jiemei blog.
1) add individual pictures to our profiles
(if you don't want ugly photos, please choose one nice photo of urself and send to me)
*oh. if your dun like ur profiles, want to change,
please let me know what you wan to edit.
i think i am the only person who can edit stuff on the template rite? as in.. ur dun have access right?
2) put up a jiemei photo
(i'm still looking for a good one. probably the open house one on ching's blog?)
3) change the template!!! when i have time will do up a collage header, and this blog will be totally customized as our own.
(i ought to be paid. thx.)
4) have already added chatbox for friends of jiemeis to speak.
should be like this for the moment.
maybe on the way can add other things
like polls and stuff so that we can have regular topics
and everyone can discuss on the blog or wat
or can have imeem then put up one song each from the jiemeis.
like this is the jiemei jukebox.
hahaha.
ok
anymore ideas post it up yah.
CYCLING?
are you kidding me?
*looks at my ankle
*looks at wenhui
*stares long long.
i am everything for buffets and binge-eating!!!
please.
can we have some yes "low-movement" activities.
okay..
i know i'm not the main character of the day
but aku cannot cycle lah!
i think the jiemei gathering is going to be my FIRST ever attempt to be out for non-soka/non-work basis leh.
and ugh. i am back on crutches again.
cause one journey out for four hours
caused my leg to start swelling again.
really hoping that i can be out by next week.
it's been a month already~~~~~!!!!
=X
Of course, I got the idea of eating brunch coz of the sitcom How I Met Your Mother (right now only ching will understand bahz, but the rest can go watch n see what i mean!) And this Pan-Pac hotel restaurant seems really interesting too! but I duno if it'll be expensive and if we'll be on a budget.. so it really depends on everyone! this is juz a suggestion :)
And I'm super on for cycling too! at ECP or any other park..
yay! pink!
post-exam jiemei outing!
the photo that xintian posted is quite nice! all of us look really really HAPPY! lol. speaking about pink, that day we had a themed "pink top" day. maybe next time we can do a "flower-power" theme! hahaha. ok. anyway, let's decide what to do on the 8th of may! movie? chitchat? boardgames? high-tea buffet? ice-cream? any more low-impact, minimum-movement things to suggest? heh. hope shanshan's ankle gets better by then.
i think i know why everyone responded so quickly. coz studying for exams is very sian. so keep surfing the net and blogging. lol. i hope the home of the jiemeis doesnt become deserted and empty, unlike most of the other grp blogs that i had.
ps. siyong just said our blog is like a big tagboard. tsk. whack him.
pps. my blogging skills suck. my entry sounds very disjointed. haha. not used to blogging texts.
Last one to know n post =(
haha i was out today for FYP presentation, then went to watch the Superhero Movie after that! It's super hilarious.. go watch if you need a good laugh!
anw, we're allowed to talk about other ppl on this blog right? i wanna share good news that siyong has found a job! i was sms-ing him today about his JTC interview.. Good for him!
and thank you shanshan dear for setting up the jiemei blog! yay~
:)
